Autism Anglia is a well-established charity celebrating 50 years. We have an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Assistant to be based in our Essex Services. 

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Assistant to take responsibility for the general maintenance and upkeep of Autism Anglia’s sites, grounds, and décor across the properties.

Autism Anglia is dedicated to providing ongoing training and supervision, continuing professional development and support as well as an extensive induction on commencement of employment.

  • Location: Colchester – Essex
  • Hours: Full Time 37 hours per week
  • Salary: £20,500 – £22,500 per annum

With services in Essex, Suffolk, and Norfolk, that are managed from our office in Colchester, we offer personalised approaches that provide each individual with the necessary skills and strategies to enable them to realise their own strengths and abilities.

The charity also seeks to promote greater knowledge and understanding of autism through training, education, and supplying information to the public and professionals.

We offer numerous services for autistic people and their families, including Adult Services, Residential Services, Supported Living, Outreach programmes, Opportunity Centres, Doucecroft School, Autism Diagnostic Services, and Advocacy amongst many more.   

The role:

  • Conducting regular Health and Safety Checks in line with existing processes and procedures, and subsequent reporting to the line manager and Facilities and Compliance Manager where appropriate
  • Ensuring that planned works are delivered in a timely manner and within budget.
  • Completion of the maintenance log for planning and coordination of jobs between areas within sites and surrounding areas.
  • Ensuring safe storage of all equipment and materials required for day-to-day maintenance including adherence to COSHH regulations.
  • Carrying out regular compliance checks including but not limited to, the heating, hoy water systems, water checks, general hygiene and other health and safety checks.
  • Take personal responsibility and act within the spirit, principles and values of the Charity.

 

Applications are welcome from Maintenance Assistants with the following:

 

  • Experience working either as a handyman/maintenance operative, ideally with groundskeeping experience.
  • You will hold a clean driving licence with at least 2 years of driving experience.
  • Experience in gardening, and general building maintenance including painting carpentry, plumbing and decorating.
  • Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent) grade A-C is highly desirable.
  • General understanding of Health and Safety principles

 

It is essential that the successful applicant holds a full driving licence.
