Job Description

Assessor/Trainer in Health & Social Care.

Step Ahead Training Centre deliver induction training to both Way Ahead Care and External providers in accordance with Legislative requirements. We provide internal and external Diplomas in Health & Social Care, Management and Team Leading Awards, in addition to other nationally recognized qualifications through City & Guilds and the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM).

We are looking to recruit a new team member to work primarily across Somerset, although it will also cover Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES) The position is full-time and would require flexibility in working hours.

Your role will be to deliver induction/mandatory training for both internal and external candidates (in an agreed timeframe), providing support, motivation and guidance throughout, adapting your approach to meet the specific learning needs of the individual. You will be responsible to organize and maintain relevant documentation. You will also be required to contribute to the delivery of qualifications within the Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF).

A broad range of communication skills at all levels, practiced time management skills as well as the ability to plan, manage and prioritize your own workload are essential to this role. Likewise, a flexible and positive approach, the ability to get on well with others and to work effectively as part of a team, are a must. You should be able to demonstrate the ability to build relationships, promote our services and expand our business within Somerset & BANES.

Demonstrating your own knowledge and competence in Health & Social Care, an Assessors qualification is essential, and a teaching qualification is desirable however the successful applicant must have the ability and willingness to undertake necessary training and qualifications.

Job Summary:

The primary role of the Assessor/ Trainer is to assess the candidate’s performance and or the related knowledge laid down the Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF). An assessor also supports their candidates during their qualification and therefore must be able to gain the confidence of their candidates and assist them through any difficulties.

An Assessor is responsible to the scheme Co-Ordinator/IQA for their assessment decisions and to the Training Manager in all other matters.

The Trainers role is primarily to prepare, deliver and evaluate training courses to Care and Support Staff within Way Ahead Care, in order to achieve the Care Certificate and maintain compliance with the company quality standards for training. Monitor and work closely with staff.

To maintain personnel records in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation. The job holder will carry out a diverse range of administrative tasks and training delivery conducive to the employment of staff and the efficient operation of the Way Ahead Care operational teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for:

  • Candidate’s assessment
  • Ensuring each candidate is aware of their responsibility in the collection and presentation of evidence.
  • Holding progress meetings with candidates to discuss action plans, review and feedback forms and evidence, in a timely manner.
  • Agreeing assessment plans with the candidates and completing action plans on every occasion.
  • Fully briefing candidates on the assessment progress
  • Conducting the assessment in accordance with centre policy.
  • Assisting the candidates to arrange workplace observations, simulations and other assessment activities.
  • Completing appropriate records of the assessment for the candidate’s portfolio.
  • Judging the evidence and making assessment decisions against their standards.
  • Providing candidates with prompt, accurate and constructive feedback and completing a review and feedback form on every occasion.
  • Ensuring candidate’s portfolios are securely stored whilst in their possession.
  • Prepare, deliver and evaluate training courses to Care and Support Staff within Way Ahead Care. Ensuring staff are trained to current standards by assisting the Company to ensure their induction programme meets the requirements of the Care Sector. In order to achieve the Care Certificate and maintain compliance with the company quality standards for training. Monitor and work closely with staff.
  • Deliver the Induction/mandatory training for Care and Support and Operational Staff. Mark and re-assess tests if necessary to obtain pass levels.
  • Reviews of Way Ahead Care staff and the completion of the Care Certificate.

Record keeping

  • Maintaining records of the candidate’s achievements.
  • Instructing Administrator to update computer database records
  • Candidates portfolio records
  • Confirming candidates have demonstrated competence/knowledge and completing the required documentation.
  • Ensure the relevant documentation is received by the appropriate individuals
  • Informing the relevant individuals of the staff/candidates performance.
  • To monitor evaluation of training courses and bring it to the attention of the training Manager if there is cause for concern.
  • Ensure records are stored, archived and destroyed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation.

Training

  • Attending training sessions arranged for Assessor/Trainers as requested.
  • To maintain Continual Personal Development (CPD) and you keep yourself abreast of all Legislation, policies and procedures. Undertaking and recording all CPD in a portfolio of evidence,

Complaints or Appeals

  • Brining to the attention of the Quality Assurance Co-Ordinator any compliant or appeal made to them.
  • Sitting on a complaint or appeal panel as requested by the Quality Assurance Co-Ordinator.
  • To act as an impartial advisor to a candidate who requires assistance with an appeal or compliant if appointed in such role

General

  • To be available to the candidate/member of staff for support or advice.
  • From time to time making themselves available for discussions/meetings with the scheme Co-Ordinator, IQA, EQA, Quality Assurance Co-Ordinator and operational team members/Managers.
  • Confidentiality – Compliance with the Company’s Confidentiality Policy is mandatory. The nature of this role means that you will have access to highly sensitive information about staff and Service Users, any breach of confidentiality could result in prosecution for an offence under the General Data Protection Regulation and/or in addition to disciplinary action taken by Way Ahead Care which could result in summary dismissal for gross misconduct.
  • To promote and act at all times in accordance with the Company’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • Plan training courses for all staff as appropriate, complete associated administrative tasks and maintain training records.
  • Monitor and track the training programme for each member of staff to meet professional competence required by The Care Act 2014, report any identified training attendance concerns to the Senior Management Team.
  • Track and monitor the appraisal and supervision process for each new member of staff, plan reviews for new staff; report any identified attendance concerns to the Care Manager.
